Dare to risk. Because in the new world, risky is the new safe. ~ Randy Gage, Risky is the New Safe
The answer is simple – it’s our programming. We don’t take risks or step out of our status quo because of our patterns of belief and behavior that limit us. Randy Gage calls these beliefs “mind viruses”, I call them “scary voices,” and we all have them.
From the moment we’re born we are programmed with negative beliefs. By the time we’re 17, we’ve been told “You can’t,” ~ 150,000 times. Yes, we’ve also been told “You can,” ~ 5000 times. That’s a 30:1 ratio of negative to positive programming that imprints on our cellular memory, our mind’s patterns and our spirit itself. While this programming is often well intentioned, it limits our beliefs about ourselves and our potential as we grow into adults.
What if you had no limits?
What if you could reverse this programming to shift your beliefs and behaviors into the positive, unlimited side of the equation called life? What if you saw risk as a reward and safety as suspicious?
How do our renowned innovators make that shift in programming? How do they step into risk, breakout of the status quo and create big results? Why don’t we make that shift? How do we step out of our programming and into the unknown and innovative?
That’s where Randy Gage’s new book comes in.
Risky is the New Safe
Shifting our negative, limited programming has been my focus for the last two decades, personally and professionally. I’ve guided hundreds of clients to release the status quo beliefs and behaviors that have limited their business success, using proven methods and models for questioning our status quo to fuel breakout innovation.
Randy’s new book is the best guide I’ve ever read for making the powerful shifts in thinking and behaviors that will turbocharge our personal and professional success.
Randy shares insights and approaches that are bound to shake every one of us out of our status quo bias and into the risky and rewarding world of the limitless unknown.
Yesterday is no more – tomorrow is where it’s happening! Just look around us. Technology is shifting the way we work and communicate, science is creating free workers for yesterday’s jobs (including robots and monkeys) and we’re all in the midst of the biggest flux in how we work, live and play ever witnessed by this version of humanity. And the shifts keep coming, faster and faster.
Yesterday’s news, the status quo that we are all programmed to hang onto, doesn’t cut it in today’s markets. Our status quo has become a pair of concrete boots that holds us underwater as innovative competitors think different, step into risk and earn the big rewards, even as we hold our breath and hang on.
Darwin showed us that survivors are not the most powerful of the species. Survivors are those who most easily adapt to the changes around them.
Move over Darwin: Risky is the New Safe is the new survival guide for humans.
Words Can’t Describe It
I’ve spent the last two months attempting to create a video blog that did Randy’s book justice. I tried all kinds of “risky” behaviors to highlight just how amazing, phenomenal and just plain necessary this book is for this moment in our world and civilization. In the end – all the videos were too small to do the book justice. I couldn’t find a risky behavior that was big enough (and frankly, that wouldn’t kill me) to make the impression this book deserves. I tried a lot of things too – from flying my wing to turning a cow at 35 mph to a bungee opportunity (don’t ask) and more. None of my big adrenaline playtimes can do this book justice!
So let’s keep it simple.
